| Review: Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie, Texas was designed by Jeff Brauer and is built on 250 acres of rolling hilly terrain reminiscent of the Texas hill country. The 6835 yard, 18 hole championship course has Bermuda grass fairways and Crenshaw Bentgrass greens. The facilities include a very well designed and expansive driving range with large separate chipping and putting greens. The location will be convenient from most anywhere in the DFW area, just 25 minutes from Fort Worth or Dallas and about 15 minutes from the DFW airport and mid-cities.
I have played Tangle Ridge three times now and other than the high wind conditions each time, the course if great. Most fairways are lined with significant trees and underbrush giving you the feeling of being separated from other golfers for the majority of the round. Designer Jeff Brauer of Golfscapes in Arlington has designed many other of our area's better courses, including Cowboys, Trails of Frisco, and Squaw valley--and once again, he did a great job. He took advantage of the natural landscape and elevation changes, making many holes seem like a signature hole at an average course. We found truly outstanding course conditions on our June 2004 visit, making this one of my new favorites and a best value choice. The Crenshaw Bentgrass greens were close to perfect, showing what happens with great maintenance and players' diligence in fixing ball marks.
Tangle Ridge Golf Club has received many awards and was chosen “12th Best Golf Course" in the State of Texas by Golf Digest. The 19th hole has a full service grill with great hamburgers, televisions, and comfortable seating. Let us know if you get a chance to play this beautiful private club quality pubic course. My bet is you will be pleasantly surprised.
