| Review: Hawks Creek is a very nice course that always seems to be in good condition and is one of the most conveniently located courses to Fort Worth’s west side. This is the old Carswell air force base track redesigned and opened in 2002.
The bent grass greens offer a rare treat for most public course players. Ron Cline the course superintendent continues to do a great job keeping those difficult greens in good to great shape all year long. The management brags the greens are some of the smoothest and fastest around and claims most of the time the rolling speeds are over 10.5 on the Stimpmeter. The traditional style layout is defined by mature trees, natural water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. As is the case with bent grass greens everyone needs to do their part and fix a few ball marks regardless if they made one or not.
The par five 9 & 18th holes are my two favorites and very hard to reach in two each requiring long shots over water to reach for an eagle try. They have some construction on the courses edge right now fall- (2005) along with the traffic from the joint reserve air base so if you are easily distracted this might not be the place for you to play.
The staff including Bo, Troy and Tatum among others is always helpful and friendly under pro Joe Whitaker’s leadership. The giant practice putting green in front of the rustic old club house is a plus for anyone wanting to work on there important short game. Hawks Creek would make a great location for anyone wanting to sneak out of work downtown early get in an afternoon 18 and could host a great tournament for any medium sized or smaller group. Just remember when leaving work early it is always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. We hope you get to enjoy this course and you will see why it is on our public favorites list.
Good Luck and hit them straight.
