Review:
Whitestone Golf Club is just minutes South of Fort Worth on Highway 377 in Benbrook. It offers a tough course with good conditons and value. Opened in 2000 and designed by noted course architect Jeff Brauer, former president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA), the course measures a challenging 7117 yards from the pro tees. Mr. Brauer wisely used the durable Eagle Tif Bermuda grass for the greens and 419 Bermuda for the fairways.

Whitestone has always been a significant challenge to me being right down the street from my store. I should play it more often however it has always seemed to get the best of me. The number ten, 579 yard par five, is a real score killer. You must place your tee and second shots very well as there is danger on all sides. Their signature hole is the par three number eleven: a scenic elevated tee 203 yard shot over a small creek with several sand bunkers protecting the green. Whitestone has the convenient ParView GPS service available for all carts for a small fee; although the traditionalist would probably pass it is helpful for those who have not played a course before. The development around Whitestone is now taking shape with numerous builders like David Weekley building custom homes on the course. One funny fact I must point out is that areas previously deemed "environmentally sensitive" have now been bulldozed for new homes.

I have played Whitestone Golf Club about 12 times; it has been in very good shape almost every time with the greens normally rolling fast and breaking hard. Our friend Scotty is no longer the head pro but they are still in good hands. Let us know if you get a chance to play this course and make sure and fill out a review. Take a day off and play golf but make sure and tell us about it.
