| Review: Dallas Cowboys Golf Club is not only a side show for rabid Cowboys and football fans, it is a great 18 hole layout with fantastic elevation changes and panoramic scenery. Measuring a challenging 7017 yards from the black pro tees, I would say it certainly plays to its full distance with 13 holes having water as a hazard. The greens are large and fairways wider than many courses, allowing a focused player to score one of his or her better rounds. Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, Golf for Women, Zagot’s and Avid Golfer have all praised this as one of the best or must play courses in North Texas. I have always found the fairways to be in great shape but they have had some problems with their greens resulting in the dismissal of the course superintendent sometime around the summer of 2002. We played Cowboys three times in winter/spring 2004 and found the greens to be improved and getting better with each visit.
The standard charge of $135.00 per player might scare off many but is all inclusive with only alcohol being at additional charges. Unlike most public courses, you will find the food and service is outstanding and if you can get an extra round or half round in, the value is very good. The clubhouse has a nicely furnished bar and seating area with a large screen television showing sports and a full menu to order from. On the course you will find hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken sandwiches at an outdoor grill following the front nine. The course layout does not return close to the club house until after the eighteenth hole, so buying extra golf balls or sun screen is out of the question--be prepared for whatever you will need prior to teeing off at hole one.
Cowboys is regularly the choice for high end charity golf tournaments due to its outstanding facilities allowing it to accommodate rather large groups with a very good level of satisfaction. There are plenty of gift options in their unique NFL themed pro-shop and you will find one of the area's best practice facilities for pre-round warm up or fine tuning you swing. I would rate Cowboys as one of my top three public courses in North Texas and have taken guests for special occasions like birthdays several times. Get a good foursome together and make a tee time for a great day of golf just north of DFW airport.
Hit them straight and long.
