| Review: Don’t let this course’s measured length fool you; it is a true challenge for the recreational golfer. All but one of DeCordova’s tight fairways (the par 4 ninth) are lined with homes on one or both sides—an errant tee shot, will, if you are lucky, find some of the abundant water, but is very likely to be in someone’s backyard. That makes this a good example of a risk/reward type course. You can play safe with an iron off the tee, but that leaves you another longish iron shot into what can be some frighteningly fast greens that can be hard to hold with anything longer than a pitching wedge. Alternatively, you can gamble with driver, which typically results in either stroke and distance or some flavor of wedge into the green.
The DeCordova Bend Country Club is private and open only to residents of DeCordova Bend Estates—the gated lakeside community—and their guests. Members are treated to an extremely well maintained golf course, lighted tennis facility, formal dining, and 19th hole for a very reasonable monthly assessment. If you don’t know a resident, there are many chances to play this course on Mondays in charity tournaments when the course would otherwise be closed—-though playing this course in a scramble format will leave you thinking the course is far easier than it actually plays for individual golfers.
