| Review: Mansfield National Golf Club offers an outstanding value for North Texas golfers, running under 39 dollars most days. You will find tee times get booked up and play can be somewhat slow because this great course is not a secret anymore. Opened in November 2000 by the city of Mansfield, this course was designed by Arlington Architect John Colligan, whose other fine work includes Squaw Valley golf club in Glen Rose Texas along with remodels of Hawks Creek and updates at Colonial Country Club.
Colligan laid out a multi-styled 6850 yard course at Mansfield National with the front four holes resembling a wide open links style course with the Bermuda fairways passing one another and the last fourteen holes separated by heavily treed areas along with narrower fairways. Most players find they can score well on the first four holes; then they reach number five, a very challenging par 3 dogleg left over water measuring 233 yards from the pro tees. The well conditioned greens are Tiffwarf and normally role at a medium speed.
Mansfield National rates as my best value course in North Texas because the condition has always been great the fifteen times I have played there. Most courses with this type of price more resemble a goat ranch then a golf course--look at Meadowbrook or Timberview for example. The staff has always been very friendly and the food service is well above average too. You will find little to complain about with any trip to Mansfield National Golf Club, so get out there and play a great round of golf.
